About Guy Gentile
Guy’s innate business sense emerged early at the age of 11 when he started his first business with the $200 purchase of a neighborhood newspaper route that had just 50 deliveries. Confident of expansion the youngster took his sales pitch door to door eventually tripling his subscribers to 150 and quickly earning back his investment – within the first month, tips quadrupled his revenue.
Born in Mt. Vernon, New York, Guy and his sister grew up in the type of idyllic, family-oriented neighbourhood where kids rode their bikes outside and parents yelled from the porch for them to come in for dinner. Guy’s parents and family, immigrants from the beautiful Campania region of Italy, believed in the ‘American dream’ and by need and nature became successful entrepreneurs owning at various times, restaurants, and landscaping and construction businesses.
It is from his father and uncles that Guy inherited his entrepreneurial spirit and exemplary work ethic. Their example encouraged him to always push to do better and to prove himself.
As a teenager he developed a “rule of 3” ensuring that he always had three income sources at any time, a philosophy he still adheres to. Throughout high school in addition to his paper route he held jobs at the local supermarket and several restaurants, and managed a lawn mowing service.
At 15, Guy set a target to one day be as successful as Donald Trump, the real estate tycoon. However, he soon realised that the hours he was putting into daily jobs left little time to do anything else. Guy devised a plan that was to give him an income in addition to his career, and taking a page out of Trump’s book he looked at the opportunities real estate could afford him. Over five years he saved every penny he earned and was able to buy his first in-come producing property. It was the start of a profitable real estate portfolio that flourishes today.
His neighborhood spawned many local heroes and Guy found himself drawn to the soldiers, firemen, and police officers. He admired the jobs they did and their roles in the community and wanted to emulate them in some way. Guy chose law and pursued a degree in criminal justice in college with the idea of becoming a member of some part of law enforcement and enlisted in the U.S. Army. However, as the 21-year old waited to be called up, his interest in making money led him to read, “Reminiscences of a Stock Operator” by Edwin Lefѐvre. As a result, he began to search the day trading sites and then started a Blog on the subject. Within six weeks his blog evolved into a successful day trading website with paying subscribers and he incorporated as DayTraderPro, Inc in 1998. Eager to capitalize on this success Guy indefinitely suspended his military plans to pursue a career in financial technology and trading services entrepreneurship.
Later that year, Guy’s business acumen enabled him to also establish Speedtrader.com, a day trading brokerage which provided direct access trading software and online trading platforms to investors and active day traders who needed more than just a typical online broker – one of the first businesses of its kind. And at only 24, Guy became one of the youngest persons to have founded a registered broker-dealer in America.
18 years later, the firm remains a leading online day trading platform, ranked among the best online brokerages by Barron’s four years in a row, and in 2010 rated one of the fastest growing private companies in America by Inc. Magazine.
Guy’s keen strategic insight and mounting trading knowledge have allowed him to go from strength to strength in his business endeavours. Since Speedtrader he has launched numerous other financial businesses including numerous online financial and trading education platforms and the high frequency trading firm GBox Trading.
Eager to broaden his range Guy ventured into a variety of industries throughout his business endeavours. In 2005 Guy ventured into the music business opening R&B and Reggae label Muziq Records, which he eventually sold. He also, owned popular restaurants in two countries – Pizzeria Italiana in New York, and Sur Club Sushi in Nassau, Bahamas.
In 2011, Guy launched his Bahamas-based broker/dealer Suretrader.com., now an award-winning online broker that allows customers to day trade with less than $25,000. SureTrader is today one of the largest and highest profile platforms for day trading, with thousands of traders relying on it every day.
As Guy accumulated nearly two decades of trading successes, he also preserved his first passion for community and public service, spending much of his time volunteering for worthy causes especially those related to first responders. Guy has previously held the ranks of Communication Services Officer in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Firefighter and Fire Police Officer in the Putnam Valley Fire Department.
Guy is also a passionate advocate for animal rights and is a member of the Society for Prevention of Cruelty for Animals. In his spare time, he loves to travel. Already splitting his time between Miami and The Bahamas he has travelled extensively around North America, The Caribbean, Europe and Asia. An avid photographer, Guy enjoys capturing his travels on film and photographing candid moments and life in action.
